Split, where all of life is but a stage...

Whenever we think of Split, we always think of some splendid ceremony. The city whose heart dwells in ceremony grew from the Peristyle, this ceremonial imperial place, the core of the Palace of the weary Emperor Diocletian. A ceremony of everyday life, a ceremony of the sunrise and sunset, a ceremony of the bazaar and the fish market, the waterfront and the town square, sunny strolls and drawn-out April siroccos, afternoon siestas, and crepuscular shadows. A ceremony of faith, a ceremony keeping warm both of the patrician palaces within the town walls and humble abodes in old suburban neighborhoods. A ceremony of everlasting spirituality embedded in the town's foundation, leaving lasting footprints as long as the town dwells in the eternal Mediterranean embrace, a spirituality whose light and wisdom have bees this city’s inheritance for more than seventeen hundred years. A ceremony above all. In the interplay of light and shadow Split has created a historical experience and changed as much as it needed in order to keep up with times, meaning all the challenges of the new never entirely erased the old, but always built upon it, creating a symbiosis, a coexistence of all of its historical layers. Secession buildings are thus to be found next to walls from antiquity, and modern-day glass-covered structures next to Gothic architecture.

The ruins of Diocletian's Palace, built between the late 3rd and the early 4th centuries A.D., can be found throughout the city where we'll have our sightseeing. The Cathedral was built in the Middle Ages, reusing materials from the ancient mausoleum. The 12th and 13th-century Romanesque churches, medieval fortifications, 15th-century Gothic palaces, and other palaces in Renaissance and Baroque style make up the rest of the protected area.

A unique experience of walking through the most exciting "city-palace" that will leave everyone breathless...
