I am known for this. To welcome you to Belgium, I will be mostly honored to "pick you up" at the airport (any), or railway stations (Thalys, Eurostar, etc...), and drive you to your hotel, making sure you are confortable and eventually, planifying your stay and visits.

Beginning in 57 BC, Julius Caesar extended the power of Rome into the region of Europe that is now Belgium. The people he encountered there were the Belgae, one of the various Celtic tribes of early Gaul, and the Romans dubbed their new province Gallia Belgica. In the fourth century AD, with Rome in decline, control of Gaul was ceded to the Franks, a Germanic tribe that the weakened empire employed as mercenaries. As the Franks flourished, they decided to dispense with their Roman employers. By 431, they had established an independent dynasty, the Merovingian, with its capital at Tournai. Soon after, under Clovis I (c.466-511), the Merovingians succeeded in pummeling the last of the Romans in Gaul. They held large parts of present day France and Belgium as well as southwestern Germany. Clovis also adopted Christianity, thus gaining the support of the Church. |
After Clovis' death the Merovingian kingdom began to fragment, and the Frankish lands did not come together under single rule again until the reign of Pepin III (the Short) in 751. Pepin deposed the last of the Merovingians and founded the Carolingian dynasty, which is named after his son Charlemagne. On Charlemagne's death, his empire was divided, and familial feuding led finally to the Treaty of Verdun in 843. Under the terms of the treaty, three of Charlemagne's grandsons split the empire between them. West Francia, under Charles the Bold, formed the basis of France. The Middle Kingdom was given to Lothair, though it would soon fragment. East Francia, under Louis the German, became the basis of Germany. West Francia included the narrow strip of land north and west of the Scheldt river in today's Belgium. The remainder of present-day Belgium was included first in the Middle Kingdom, under Lothair, but it gradually came under the sway of the German kings. |

In 1995, the provinces of Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant were created from the old province of Brabant, leaving Belgium with a total of 10 provinces. |

We just spent 3 fabulous days with Mike (long but fabulous). He definitely picks up very quickly on the things you like. Didn't take him long to know what my husband and I would want to take pictures of. We did one day to Ghent and Brugge, another day to visit WWII area (near St Vith). This was of particular interest to my husband, as his dad served and was wounded there. He even showed us an area of foxholes that I am sure most locals don't even know about. Last day was Brussels and Antwerp. Great to have a guide who is native to Brussels. He even tells about remembering when The Atomium was being built when he was a child. I cannot say enough good things. He does not shuffle you into stores where you feel obligated to purchase. You will not regret any time spent with him. After 3 days, he feels like family.

Hope you and your family are doing fine. i am still suffering from jet lag, and with a little cold but we did all return home safely. I want to thank you for the most wonderful tours i have ever had, you are a living encyclopedia, with all your knowledge about everything, and you took us to places i never expected to see.
We were all somewhat tired of the previous river trip but i think we all enjoyed your tours around belgium very much. And your spanish is very good, perfectly understandable, do not need to worry about it !!! On behalf of all my family thanks again for your wonderful job.

Thank you for the incredible tour of Brugge, Ghent and Daam. The cities are amazing in their history and architecture. The canal ride in Bruges along tree-lined canal bordered by evocative buildings without a lot of car traffic was charming and opened our eyes to life in Brugge. The view from St. Michael's bridge to allowed us to see the famous Gent towers all at once: St. Nicholas' Church, the Belfry, St. Bavo's Cathederal, the Gothic St. Michael's Church, and the former Dominican monastery 'Het Pand.' You have the ability to get to know each client and individualize the tours to make them special for each person. Its a phenomenal trait to have.

We truly appreciated your expert guidance and relaxed driving and all the information and history you provided as we went along. Midori was very happy with thew whole trip, and particularly impressed of how highly "civilized" and educated Belgian society is. Hi. All worked out very well; thank you for all you did. Your recommendation that we hire a driver and selection of Michael must have been inspired. We enjoyed all of our time together. Michael was very knowledgeable about the places we visited. He learned new places and more background. We went to places he had not been to previously but I am sure that he would include now if someone made a similar request for a tour.
