DAY 2 - ACCRA Orientation, City Tour of Accra to see the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Independence Arch, National Theater and the WEB Dubois Pan African Center and craft markets and other points of interest. Overnight at Novotel Hotel. (B, D) DAY 3 - KUMASI Depart to Kumasi the realm of the Ashanti Kingdom, arriving at noon. We pass through Obouasi, the location of the Ashanti Goldfields one of the richest mines in the world. In the afternoon, take an excursion to the village of Bonwire, the locale where the famous Royal Kente Cloth is made. Overnight at Miklin Hotel. (B, D) DAY 4 - KUMASI Visits to the craft villages of Pankrono (pottery), Ahwiaa (woodcarving), and Ntonso (adinkra) cloth. Visit the Kumasi Cultural Center In the afternoon, an excursion to the Kumasi Central Market the largest in West Africa followed by a visit to Manhiyia Palace for an audience with the Ashanti King or members of his Royal Court. Overnight at Miklin Hotel. (B, D) DAY 5 - CAPE COAST Depart for Cape Coast and Elmina, arriving late morning for a brief tour of the city of Cape Coast. Tour Elmina Castle, a World Heritage site where slaves were held before being sent to the New World-followed by a walk through the town of Elmina. In the afternoon, visit the Volta Fisherman Community, a coastal village with traditional industries and Volta style houses. Overnight at Elmina Beach Resort. (B, D) DAY 6 - CAPE COAST - LOME Depart Cape Coast to Lome, Togo. Stop at Shai Hills Game Reserve before continuing to Lome, Togo for dinner and overnight. Overnight at Corinthia Hotel. (B) DAY 7 - LOME - BENIN After a morning city tour of Lome continue to Cotonou, Benin. Evening tour of Cotonou. Overnight at Hotel du Lac. (B) DAY 8 - COTONOU, BENIN Morning departure to Abomey with visits to the Royal Palace Museum and the King of Abomey. Mid-afternoon, travel to Aladja to see the birthplace of Toussaint Louverture, the liberator of Haiti. Late afternoon return to Cotonou. Dinner and overnight in Cotonou. Overnight at Hotel Du Lac. (B) DAY 9 - COTONOU Morning departure to Porto Novo. Visit the Ethnographic Museum, the Brazilian Church and the 300 year-old Palace of King Toffa. Enjoy a performance of the 'Guardians of the Night' spirit dancers. Overnight at Hotel Du Lac. (B) DAY 10 - COTONOU Travel to Ouidah, former slave trading post and birthplace of Voodoo. An unforgettable visit takes you to the Voodoo Museum, the Sacred Forest, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Pythons. Walk the "Road of Slaves", to the awe-inspiring memorial. Continue to the place of the common grave, the tree of forgetfulness and the 'Gate of no Return'. Welcome reception from Dagbo Hounon, high priest of the voodoo cult. late afternoon - return to Cotonou and overnight. Overnight at Hotel Du Lac. (B) DAY 11 - COTONOU - LOME - ACCRA - DEPARTURE Visit Dantokpa Market and the Artisans Center. Depart for leisurely transfer to Accra stopping for lunch in Lome, Togo. Arrive Accra early evening. Overnight at Novotel Hotel. (B) DAY 12 - ACCRA/ OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES - DEPARTURE Today decide on your tour and activities with the assistance of your driver and guide.
