DAY 2 - ACCRA City Tour of Accra to see the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Independence Arch, National Theater and the WEB Dubois Pan African Center and craft markets where you may test your bargaining skills on the local vendors, Overnight at Novotel hotel (B, D) DAY 3 - CAPE COAST Depart for Cape Coast and Elmina, arriving late morning for a brief tour of the city of Cape Coast and transfer to hotel. Tour Elmina Castle, a World Heritage site where slaves were held before being sent to the New World-followed by a walk through the town of Elmina. In the afternoon, visit the Volta Fisherman Community, a coastal village with traditional industries and Volta style houses. Overnight at Elmina Beach Resort (B, D) DAY 4 - CAPE COAST Tour of Cape Coast continues. Visit Cape Coast Castle-another World Heritage Site. Overnight at Elmina Beach Resort(B, D) DAY 5 - KUMASI Depart to Kumasi the realm of the Ashanti Kingdom. We pass through Obouasi, the location of the Ashanti Goldfields-one of the richest mines in the world. Take an excursion to the village of Bonwire, the locale where the famous Royal Kente Cloth is made. Overnight at Miklin hotel (B, D) DAY 6 - KUMASI Visits to the craft villages of Pankrono (pottery), Ahwiaa (woodcarving), and Ntonso (adinkra) cloth. Visit the Kumasi Cultural Center and lunch at the Kentish Kitchen with Ghanaian cuisine. In the afternoon, an excursion to the Kumasi Central Market-the largest in West Africa followed by a visit to Manhiyia Palace for an audience with the Ashanti King or members of his Royal Court. Overnight at Miklin hotel (B, D) DAY 7 - ACCRA Departure for Accra, arriving early afternoon in Aburi for lunch and a visit to the 100 year-old Aburi Botanical Gardens. Visit the woodcarvers and drummakers of Aburi before continuing to Accra. Overnight at Novotel hotel (B, D) DAY 8 - LOME, TOGO Depart on a 3-hour drive to Lome, Togo stopping at points of interest. Check into your hotel. Afternoon tour of Lome. Overnight at Corinthia Hotel. (B) DAY 9 - COTONOU, BENIN Depart to Cotonou, Benin. Arrive Cotonou late morning. City tour of Cotonou and of Porto Novo. Visit the Ethnographic Museum, the Brazilian Church and the 300 year-old Palace of King Toffa. Overnight at Hotel Du Lac. (B) DAY 10 - OUIDAH Tour of Ouidah including the old slave trading post. An unforgettable visit takes you to the Voodoo Museum, the Sacred Forest, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Pythons. Walk the "Road of Slaves", to the awe-inspiring memorial. Continue to the place of the common grave, the tree of forgetfulness and the 'Gate of no Return'. Overnight at Hotel du Lac. (B) DAY 11 - GANVIE Tour of Ganvie, the lake village built on stilts with its floating market and handicraft center. Overnight at Hotel du Lac. (B) DAY 13 - ACCRA Depart for leisurely transfer to Accra stopping for lunch in Lome, Togo. Arrive Accra late afternoon.
