RioPlus is a partnership created in 2002 between two friends and accredited tour guides with the same dream of promoting Brazil throughout the world. Valeria comes from a long journey taking Brazilians to cities like New York, Orlando, Vancouver and Paris. I have worked for many years guiding tourists from all over the world around Brazil. We both had the idea of bringing to our Country the same exclusive services found in some of the major cities of the world. Brazil is the largest and most populous country in South America, and fifth largest in the world in both area and population. Following three centuries under the rule of Portugal, Brazil became an independent nation in 1822 and a republic in 1889. By far the largest and most populous country in South America, Brazil overcame more than half a century of military intervention in the governance of the country when in 1985 the military regime peacefully yielded power to civilian rulers. Brazil continues to pursue agricultural and industrial growth and development of its interior. Today, it is South America's foremost economic power and a regional leader, exploiting considerable natural resources and a large labor pool. Highly unequal income distribution remains a pressing problem. For hundreds of years, Brazil has symbolized the great escape into a primeval, tropical paradise, igniting the Western fantasy like no other South American country. It is a country of mythic proportions - from the insane passion of Carnival to the boundlessness of the dark Amazon, The culture of Brazil is rooted in the culture of Portugal. The Portuguese colonists and immigrants brought the Catholic faith, the Portuguese language and many traditions and customs that still influence the modern-day Brazilian culture. Perhaps Brazil is not quite the Eden of people's imagination, but it's still a land of amazing beauty. There are stretches of unknown tropical forest, endless rivers and islands with pristine tropical beaches. And there are the people themselves, who delight the visitor with their joy and energy.
