Explore the remains of the “Colored” monastery, covered with myths and legends, one of the few rock monasteries in Bulgaria!. The name of this rock monastery (the height of the rock is 60 m) in Turkish means "multi-colored". That was because of the medieval wall paintings which nowadays faded and almost erased. The monks' cells were cut out of the soft white limestone cliff. They were placed on 2 lewels. Cristian hermit’s lived there from 5th cent. A.D. The monastery was deserted in 18th century. With Patrick as your guide you will not miss the cave placed 250 m to the south-west, which was used a hermits' tomb. There is a beautiful view towards the sea, when you climb on top! |
