Welcome to Split.
Split is the biggest city on the Croatian coast and one of the most historical cities on the Mediterranean. Since 1979, the historic center of Split has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites
Your guide will meet you at the city of Split centre, at your hotel or at your cruise ship dock.
After the short introduction to the city of Split we will start our 30 minute drive to the town Trogir.
Trogir is a charming little town founded by the Greeks on a small island in the 3rd century BC. It has been declared one of the world's most beautiful little towns and it has been protected by UNESCO.
Trogir is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only in the Adriatic but in all of Central Europe. Trogir's medieval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical periods. Trogir's grandest building is the church of St. Lawrence, which main west portal is a masterpiece by Radovan, and the most significant work of the Romanesque-Gothic style in this part of Europe.
Both in Split and Trogir there are lots of wonderful small restaurants serving Dalmatian - Mediterranean food - fish, lobsters, calamari, etc., and also pizza, meet and pasta restaurants, so we can stop for lunch break any time you want (lunch not included in the tour price).
After lunch and free time for shopping we will driving back for the tour of Split.
We will explore together the compact, entirely pedestrianised centre of town and also some of the town's museums such as the entirely preserved 4th century Diocletian's palace underground chambers and the St. Doimus cathedral. We will walk through the palace fortifications and gates, visit the Jewish ghetto and of course admire one of the main symbols of Split – its main promenade, the seafront – Riva, rebuilt in May 2007.
You will hear the story of the life of Diocletian – of one of the most successful Roman emperors, but also the worst Christian persecutor ever. St. Doimus was one of the martyrs from that period, nowadays he is the patron of Split... You will learn how the palace of Diocletian was turned into medieval Christian town and...yes...why we have the oldest cathedral building in the world(!!)... You also might be interested to hear why the city of Split is considered to be 'the sportiest city in the world'....

Matej, emailed to ask if we would supply a testimonial and to be frank, it was VERY rude of us not to just do naturally. We have just returned from the most amazing time in Croatia and Matej's tour was a huge part of it. We had a large family group of 10 people to cater for, so we had varying requirements. Matej was very happy to work with us to obtain the perfect initerary. It wasn't the easiest one I'm sure, but the end result for us was fantastic. Every part of our tour was easy. Every part of the tour just flowed. I can't speak highly enough of Matej. So should you be looking at touring Croatia, can I just say, email Matej, he made our life so easy.
We wish you all the very best Matej and when you come to Australia you must visit us.
Warm Regards

Matej was absolutely wonderful. He is clearly a history buff and incredibly knowledgeable about his homeland, it all showed on our tour. We were with 2 retired educators and we all were very impressed with him. No matter what questions we had he knew the answers-even the offbeat stuff. By far the best tour we took. We were with a 3 year old, Matej was very accommodating with potty breaks and a lunch stop, answered all emails promptly, no problems at all, VERY highly recommended.
