We are vising the charming town of Trogir, founded by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC on a small island. Trogir has been declared one of the world's most beautiful little towns and protected by UNESCO. If driving from Split direction, on our way to Trogir we will stop by the ruins of the Roman amphtheatre in Salona. The amphitheatre was built 1900 years ago and it used to accommodate 18.000 spectators. Our drive from Split will take 40-50 minutes (our tour can begin from any of the hotels in Split or in the wider region, where you are staying). As we reach Trogir, we will enjoy wandering through the compact, pedestrianised centre of town - admiring its narrow cobbled passageways, amazing palaces and the noble houses built of a white Dalmatian stone. We will pass along Trogir's main promenade, the seafront - Riva, visit the well known St.Lawrence cathedral and see it's 13th century portal. We will also climb the 14th century Kamerlengo fortress. Trogir is a town-museum in the very meaning of the word. Lovers of cultural and historical monuments, art, original architecture and nice alleys are given the opportunity in Trogir to learn about the manifold and complex heritage - from the Romanesque yard to the modern interiors. The unique historical core, the cathedral portal, the art collections which have been arousing excitement among visitors and travellers for centuries offer a tourist beauty, personified in the relief of Kairos as an appropriate souvenir. Trogir is the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic complex not only in the Adriatic but in all of Central Europe. Trogir's medieval core, surrounded by walls, comprises a preserved castle and tower and a series of dwellings and palaces from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Trogir's grandest building is the church of St. Lawrence, whose main west portal is a masterpiece by Radovan, and the most significant work of the Romanesque-Gothic style in the country.
Debbie, USA, Miami We thoroughly enjoyed our short time in Croatia. Our guides in both locations (Split/Trogir and Dubrovnik) were wonderful and we learned a lot about the culture and the history. We were travelling with 2 teenagers who enjoyed the tours as much as we did thanks to the guides who were attentive to their questions, and engaged them in conversations that were of interest to them. In both spots, we had the chance to have a meal that represented the best of the region, and because the guides joined us in both restaurants, we were able to enjoy it in a way that we could not without them. We will come back, and I will contact you to be our guide again. I will also recommend you (and Croatia) to friends looking for a different experience.
Thank you, you and your team made our trip memorable.
