The oldest gardens originated at the monasteries, The monks were growing herbs, decorative flowers for churches and the vegetable patches were supplying the monastery kitchen. During the reign of Charles IV especially the grapevine was cultivated on the hills of Prague. Tour in Prague
The Renaissance period changed the way of living and a necessary component of a noble residence became a geometrical garden setup. This was quite typical for the Italian Renaissance. Later the gardens became more sophisticated. Baroque time required an exact axis garden setup with flowerbeds, trees and statues on sides. 19th century brought the spacious English park. All these periods left their traces in the Prague Gardens.
Our tour would start in the Prague Lesser Town in the Vrtba Garden. This venue is considered a pearl among the survived Baroque gardens. It is hidden behind the old palaces and forms an unexpected beauty on the city hills. We walk up to the spot which opens up a splendid Prague panorama.   From here we take a tram which will take us to the Royal Gardens.
Renaissance is represented here by a beautiful Queen Ann's Summer House, giardinetto and a Ball Game Hall. You can listen to the Singing Fountain and see a former president's house closed to the public for more 40 years.   We walk through the Prague Castle courtyards to get to the  Southern Prague Castle Gardens. We experience the finest garden architecture of our first president's architect Josip Plecnik and walk down through enchanting  Baroque Palace Gardens which were renovated and sponsored by Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and Vaclav Havel, President of the Czech Republic.
Five amazing gardens from the 18th century stand on the site of older Renaissance gardens and vineyards. Typical plants for decorative garden are grown here. Almond trees, fig trees, roses, peonies, geranium, citrus trees and many others. Fascinating views of town will hold your breath.
