Denmark is an old kingdom. A beautiful green country with a very interesting history. And it is the home of the fairy tales. In Roskilde we have The Viking Ship Museum and The Cathedral with the royal tombs. This is the early history of the great Danes. More than 800 year ago a fortress was built on a small island in the center of Copenhagen, today it is called Christiansborg, and it is The Houses of the Danish Parliament. The city has very fine unique architecture from 15-16 century. Like the Round Tower, Borsen, and the small Renaissance castle Rosenborg, with The Royal Treasury. Once a residence, nowadays a museum.
North of Copenhagen, the castle Kronborg - also mentioned as Hamlets castle and the beautiful National Historical Museum Frederiksborg.
Copenhagen is also a modern city, with a new Opera House, a modern Royal Library building and a famous first class shopping center, with fine selected shops and department stores, selling Royal Copenhagen and Danish Design. The city has a cozy atmosphere, small narrow streets with shops, cafes and restaurants and at the entrance to the harbor, The Little Mermaid, not far from the royal residential palace Amalienborg.
Visit the castles, Rosenborg, Christiansborg, Frederiksborg, Kronborg, Roskilde Cathedral and The Viking Ship Museum. Or visit The New Carlsberg Glyptoteque, The National Art Gallery and Thorvaldsens Museum.
Wonderful Copenhagen is my home town where I have been an officially licensed guide since 1973. Let me show you the Little Mermaid and tell you about Hans Christian Andersen. Walk with me to see the Queen's Palace at Amalienborg, drive with me to see the museum of Isak Dinesen, Kronborg Castle.
