Information about Budapest

Budapest is located on both banks of the Danube River and is the capital city of Hungary. With nearly 5 million people in the city and surrounding commuter area, Budapest is the largest city in both Hungary and Central Europe. 

Budapest has many nicknames, including the Heart of Europe, the Capital of Freedom, the Capital of Spas and the Capital of Festivals. It is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is home to several prominent UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Heroes’ Square and the Millennium Underground Railway. 

Also known for its many hot springs, it has the largest geothermal water cave system in the world which is a huge attraction for the millions of visitors seeking its spas and thermal baths. Other important attractions include Buda Castle, Chain Bridge, Andrassy Avenue, Fisherman’s Bastion, and St. Steven’s Basilica. Budapest is known as one of the most idyllic places to live in Europe.

We had a marvellous time with Zoltan while vacationing in Budapest. He was very knowledgeable regarding the history of his country and gave us insight into the day to day life of living in Hungary. He was willing to accommodate us in every way. The time flew by from 1030 am to 6pm. A special thanks for rescuing our laptop that was inadvertently left behind at a restaurant and not realized until after we drove up the mountain to a castle. Which was spectacular.
