The tour offers a wonderful walk among monuments, churches, palaces, archaeological sites, museums and neglected corners with its traditional legends forming a historical center of millenary history and culture.

The origins of Naples come from the legend of the Siren ‘Partenope’, that, according to the Greek myth, devastated by Ulysses refusal, committed suicide throwing herself into the sea. She was transported almost dead to the small island of Megaride along the shore of the modern Naples, where after centuries Castle dell’Ovo was built. Traditionally the first inhabitants of Partenope were the Greeks from Rhodes who foubded the city around the 9th century. After its destruction, it passed to the Calcidesi from Cuma that then named the city Neapolis, meaning a new town. Neapolis was build approximately in the area of the historic center of modern Naples. It was a very important commercial port, dominating the gulf and imposing taxes on every commercial ship.

The guided tour includes: Church of Gesù Nuovo , Spaccanapoli (the Decumano Inferiore), Santa Chiara’s Church and its tailed cloister, Piazza Bellini with its Greco-Roman walls, San Severo’s Chapel, with the extraordinary sculpture of the Veiled Christ, Via San Gregorio Armeno with its artisan old shops of statues for the traditional Christmas nativity scene, San Lorenzo’s Church and its underground archaeological site. We will walk through via dei Tribunali (the Decumano centrale of ancient Neapolis) with a stop at the Pio Monte di Misericordia, where it will be possible to admire the extraordinary work by Caravaggio called: “Le Sette Opere di Misericordia”. The Duomo, with the Chapel of San Gennaro’s Treasure, the the chapel of Saint Restituta and, if possible, the baptistery of Saint Giovanni in Fonte with its underground archaeological site.

The tour includes also an accurate visit at the National Archaeological Museum, the most important museum in the world for the classic archaeology. It hosts the extraordinary Farnesian collection of sculptures and Jems and other incredible objects like the ‘mosaic of Alexander the Great, from the House of the Fauno in Pompeii as well as the silvers from the House of Menandro in Pompeii, the Blue Vase, probably from a tomb in Pompeii and a number of frescos from the Vesuvian area.
