Milazzo and Tindarys

Milazzo (full day):

Mylai, the ancient city of the sea, is the main port for the Aeolian Islands which lie only a few miles offshore. The “Borgo” is the oldest part of the town  

We will visit the “Santuario di San Francesco di Paola”. a 1464 church founded by the saint. Then we begin the walking tour of the “Castello”, built by the Arabs on the site of the greek acropolis and enlarged several times during the French and the Spanish period. Then we take the “Lungomare Garibaldi” along the seafront and cross the  district of “Vaccarella”, we stop here to enjoy the openair fish market and then we follow the panoramic road which runs along the eastern side of the Milazzo promontory to the end.

From here a flight of steps leads to the Santuario di Sant’Antonio di Padova a little church built in a cave where the saint  took refuge after a shipwreck in January 1221. Return journey to Milazzo through olives grows and prickly pears.

We continue the excursion to Tindarys and the northern coast of Sicily. The town is a Greek colony founded in 396 B.C. and occupies a magnificent position. Nowdays Tindari is the pilgrimage site of the Sanctuary dedicated to the Black Madonna.
