TOUR DESCRIPTION
DAY 1:TRIPOLI- SABHA
Arrival in Tripoli. Dinner at airport’s restaurant. Evening flight to Sabha. arrival, transfer to the hotel and Overnight
DAY 2: SABHA –AKAKUS
Breakfast in the hotel. Departure by 4-wheel drive to discover the Libyan Sahara. Full day driving through the marvelous landscapes of erg ubary and Wan Kasa region, characterized by colored sand dunes. Picnic lunch on the way. Arrival late afternoon. Camp in the dunes Dinner overnight .
DAY 3,4: AKAKUS-WAN KASA SAND DUNES
2 full days are dedicated to discover the vast landscapes of the famous Akakus . The Akakus is a vast “rocky” Museum situated in the mountainous region east of Ghat. It is ploughed with a great number of wadies (dried beds of the prehistoric waterways). The valleys (whose rocks are formed by ancient sands), divide themselves into various plateaus of various heights covered with grey-black breccias. Here one can find treasures of ancient rock carvings and rock paintings, called 'graffiti' testify the human being presence in the prehistoric period. A visit to those sites including the famous WAN AMIL,TAN GHALEGA. Light lunch en route late after noon camping in akakus dinner and overnight .
DAY 5: AKAKUS-MURQZUQ
Breakfast in the desert. exploring the spectacular sand dunes of the Uan Kaza until we reach the Messak . Lunch en route leave the Messak. Just in front the pinky-vermillion high dunes appear again in their extraordinary winding shapes: the edhan of Murzuq looks like an immense round sand sea. It’s the desert you always dreamed of. Camping, dinner and overnight.
DAY6: METKHANDUSH-ERG UBARI Break fast in the morning departure for Mathendush, an arid realm of black rocks with acacias scattered on its sandy river bed, like all the fossil rivers in Messak Setaffet and Mellet plateaus, hides in its heart the most incredible rock art gallery of the Sahara. The ancient artist, shaman or hunter, engraved the rock walls of the wadi Mathendush canyon, depicting the animals living in the regions of southern Libya, thousands of years ago. The “cats”, supernatural beings, bizarre and fantastic hybrids from a monkey and a feline, seem to be watching over the wadi entrance from the top of the. A crocodile taking its baby to the river rocks. A group of giraffes .lunch in the same wadi then departure for ubari sand dunes for camping ,dinner and over night.
DAY 7: UBARI LAKES-SABHA-TRIPOLI
Breakfast then again in the beautiful sands. the first stop will be at mandara dry lake then continue to The lake of UMM ALMAA (WATER`S MOTHER) .short drive to GABROUN lake, superb in its silence. Until a few years ago the Dauada people used to live here. They were called “the worm eaters” because they used to feed on pies made with larvae living in the water of these lakes. picnic lunch just near by the lake, departure for sabha .dinner. transfer to the airport . Flight to Tripoli. Transfer and accommodation in hotel.
DAY8: TRIPOLI-SABRATA-TRIPOLI
After breakfast, travel 75Km west of Tripoli to the Roman ruins of Sabratha. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sabratha was founded by the Panics in the 6th century BC ruled by Carthage, and then by Rome in 46 BC. monuments and areas of interest include the Punic mausoleum ,the roman Forum ,the Sea Ward bath ,the temple of Isis and then the most spectacular monument is the THEATRE . lunch at a local restaurant. then a visit to the small museum to admire the most beautiful Byzantine mosaics in the whole Tripolitania .drive back to Tripoli . dinner and overnight .
DAY9: TRIPOLI-LEPTIS MAGNA-TRIPOLI
Full-day excursion to Leptis Magna . Drive 125Km east to the UESCO World Heritage site of Leptis Magna; regarded as the best Roman site in the Mediterranean. The city was originally a Phoenician port, settled during the first millennium BC. Slaves, gold, ivory and precious metals brought it great wealth, which was supplemented by the rich agricultural land surrounding it. Roman legions ousted the Carthaginians following the third Punic War, after that city was flourished and it was the native city of the 1st roman emperor of African origins SEPTIMIUS SEVERUS. the sands had preserved the ruins remarkably well. Such as the Severan arch , the Hadrianic bath, the new forum ,the Punic market and roman theatre. lunch at a local restaurant. Then visiting the out lying monuments of laptis like the harbor the amphitheatre and the race course (circus) .drive back to Tripoli. dinner and overnight.
DAY10: TRIPOLI
Full-day tour of Tripoli , including the old city ,the Italian quarter and the museum, which contains an impressive collection of mosaics and statues mainly from the roman period. a real gate way to all the eras of the Libyan history- from Neolithic to the present.. Lunch in the medina then a guided walking tour in the famous medina old city) monuments like the Marcus Aurelius arch, the Gurgi mosque, the Saint Mary church. Then enjoy walking through the narrow streets and avenues of the Medina to admire its unique architecture, full time tour in its calm lovely Souk. And then at the end of the tour a visit to the interesting Italian quarter famous with its beautiful edifices like the galleria de Bono and ex piazza catedrale dinner and over night.
DAY11: DEPARTURE
After the breakfast ,Free time in the medina .Transfer to airport. |
