Information about Nida

This lovely resort community is situated on a thin strand of land called the Curonian Spit, located off the eastern coast of Lithuania between the Courland Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. Throughout history it has evolved from a fishing village, to an artists’ colony to a popular tourist destination.

Nida is known for its Nidden Kurenwimpel, which are ornately carved flags placed throughout the area, as well as its many pagan burial markers. The resort community is an upscale family atmosphere, and the town has become a gathering place for jazz entertainers, and modern electronica musicians. The city  holds a Jazz Festival every year.

The largest sand dunes in Europe are found on the Nida beaches, as well as a large sundial. Camping is also a popular attraction for visitors to Nida. Interesting places to visit include the Amber Museum, the Fisherman’s Museum, and the neo- gothic Church.
