Said Nacir. MarrakechMarrakech Classical City Tour : The city of splendor. The city of the oasis, "Red City or Al Hamra", the Capital of the Desert, spread out like a coral necklace offering at the feet of the Atlas Mountains, the door of the Sahara. Marrakech is different from Fez and from any other town in North Africa. It is more African. It is located in south-western Morocco. Like many North African and Middle Eastern cities, Marrakech has two main divisions: the old city (medina) and the modern city.

Marrakech attracts from the start. It is the most sumptuous, the most exuberant and the most poetic of the Imperial residences. No matter how it is approached, it remains captivating.

Desert way station, Marrakech prospered from the gold, ivory, and other exotica that passed through on camel caravans bound for Tinbuktu or the Barbary Coast. Winston Churchill who took painting holidays here, called Marrakech the “ Paris of the Sahara “.

Visit MENARA PARK with its man-made lake and quaint pavilion, BAHIA PALACE, and the elaborately decorated 16 TH century SAADIAN TOMBS.

The afternoon is devoted to visiting YVES ST. LAURENT’ S MAJORELLE GARDENS, and Djemaa El-Fna, the palpitating town center dominated by the 222 –foot- high KOUTOUBIA MINARET, to catch up on your postcards or bargain hunt in the souks.

As a point of convergence between the North and the South of Morocco; not far from the Sahara or the Atlantic Ocean, Marrakech is a perfect base from which to make:
- Half-day trip to Ourika to snap pictures of the Berber villages and enjoy a mint tea with a real Berber family.
- Full-Day trip to Ouarzazate through the High Atlas Mountains for a close-up encounter with the Sahara Desert.
- Full-Day trip to Essaouira with its colorful port, art galleries and medina or old town.
