Airport - The nearest airport is Heho Airport(IATA: HEH, ICAO: VYHH). It's 24 miles (39 km) by road to the west of Taunggyi. The main access to Taunggyi is by road. A railway line that passes through Taunggyi was recently built in 1995, but at the moment it offers no passenger service. Regular railway passenger service to the rest of the country is through the town of Shwenyaung, twelve miles to the west. Also, it is possible to get to Taunggyi by bus from Yangon(16hr), or Mandalay(8hr).
Shopping - Colorful and full of life, the markets are attraction for visitors in search of native life and souvenirs. Hand-woven Inle bags and shawls, Shan jackets., Zine-me longyis and other cotton materials, hand-made bamboo parasols, earthen pots with beautiful designs, bamboo hats and wooden sandals are available. Regular market operates every day, but the special regional market is held every 5 days - Five-day market, where farmers from around the area would come to the Taunggyi on market day and sell fresh produce in the open market. It's reported that prices are usually higher than other regional markets.
