Utrecht looks and feels very different from all other Dutch towns because the water level of the canals is way down below. Next to the main canal are brick warehouses with sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Right on top the cars drive along the canals. Utrecht has a beautiful gothic tower, 110 m high, which may be climbed. There is also a large Duomo church and a cloisters next door. The museums in Utrecht are outstanding: one on Christianity and one on Fine arts (painting, design, Rietveld funrniture, Dick Bruna childrens book design etc). Inside I can guide you around and explain about the art historic background story. You will enyoy a fuller understanding of the items on show and the social history behind it. I may take you there by car. We may also study the exterior architecture of Rietveld in his famous Schroeder house at the outskirts of town. |
