Humanity has gone through a lot and there are some pages and even chapters in our history which are too terrible to forget. In this particular case I am referring to the Nazi occupation and the atrocities which took place during the WWII. There are many places in Poland which are linked to that terrible time, and no wonder so many tourists are interested in them. On the contrary it would be a sacrilege to forget about all the people who died during the Nazi occupation. As your professional private guide in Poland I would definitely recommend you to visit Auschwitz concentration camp. It appeared in 1940 in a little Polish town Oswiecim. Soon namely this concentration camp became the most terrible symbol of holocaust, atrocities and genocide.  Nobody knows for sure how many people were exterminated in Oswiecim, but the figure was impressive - approximately three million people among whom 90% were Jews. It is impossible to describe all the terror that took place during the Nazi occupation.

Even today after so many years you can still feel the dark atmosphere in the camp. More than a million of people were killed in the gas chamber, others were shot or hanged or died of starvation or suffering. Jews were not the only ones who were exterminated in Oswiecim. Among the victims of the Nazi were numerous Poles, Gypsies, and Russians. Soon after the liberation of the concentration camp by the Soviet army it was turned into a museum in 1947. Nowadays it is a World Heritage Site protected by law.

Lots of terrible things happened in the concentration camp such as horrible medical experiments performed by German doctors. After visiting the concentration camp we may have a little private tour in Krakow.
