Ojcow National Park is a very famous tourist destination for the travelers from all over the world. It is definitely worth seeing, so if you have a free day and you are staying in Krakow, you shouldn’t lose an opportunity to visit it. As the matter of fact Ojcow National Park is a favorite place for all the citizens of Kracow to spend the weekends.
As your professional private guide in Poland I would definitely advice you to visit it. It is located not far from the city, only 30 kilometers from Krakow. The park is named after the village where its headquarters are located. It is worth noting that it is the smallest park in Poland, but it is considered to be really beautiful. There are numerous caves, castles and limestone cliffs in the park, which makes it very attractive for all the newcomers. We will definitely take a look at the Pieskowa Skala. If translated in English it means “Little dog’s Rock”. In fact it is a limestone cliff, which is widely known for its marvelous Renaissance castle.
The castle is really ancient; it was first mentioned in some Latin documents at the beginning of the 14th century. It was built by the king Kazimierz Wielki and it is still considered to be the best example of a defensive Polish architecture of the Renaissance epoch. Nowadays there is a museum in the castle with several exhibitions dedicated to the changes in the European art from early medieval times till the end of the 20th century. Partially due to the popularity of the castle among tourists private tours in Krakow are always in demand.
After a thorough exploration of the Pieskowa Skala we will proceed to the King Lokietek Cave. It is a Polish natural wonder which is visited by thousands of tourists each year. In spring the cave is a famous attraction among students, who come to visit it in big school groups. We will also visit the ruins of an ancient Kazimier the Great castle. After the tour we will take you back to Krakow.
