"I am living now at the world's end"... This is what Nicolaus Copernicus (the world famous astronomer) wrote when he settled in Frombork on the Vistula Lagoon. After completing studies in Italy, Copernicus returned to the Polish Kingdom to serve as the chancellor to his uncle - the Warmian Bishop Lucas Watzenrode. Nicoalus lived in Frombork for more than 30 years. Here he completed his great work "De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium". Here he died in 1543 outliving his uncle by 31 years. Probably neither of them anticipated that centuries later - people would travel to this little town just to see the cathedral where Nicolaus was buried!!! In 2005 the world was struck with a sensation: Copernicus' grave was finally found!!! The Cathedral where Nicolaus was buried is a splendid example of gothic architecture, furnished with excellent examples of baroque art. There also is a unique portal in the church - with ideology nowhere else to be found in Europe!!! To find out why - visit Frombork with me.
