A trip through the Jewish history. During this walking tour you will visit the old Lisbon quarter and the synagogue and then you will walk through Rossio streets and reach the Old Town Square where your journey to the past ends. JEWISH IN PORTUGAL:
Historical researches indicate that the Jewish presence in Portugal remounts before the formation of the Portugal kingdom. In the XII century, Portugal becomes a nation and the first Jewish communities appear in Lisbon. D.Manuel I (XV century) with fear of the financial exit capital of the country, published a law, that unauthorized the Jewish departure of Portugal and he force them to convert. Are those descendants of those generations that today begin to assume them Jewish inheritance. Its here we find Gracie Mendes (Nasi) History. ITINERARY We will begin our visit where in the Medium Age, the “Saint Catholic Inquisition”, burned in the bonfires of the Square of Rossio in Lisbon, thousands and thousands of Jews that refused to accept the Christian faith. Then, we will know the tracks of the old Jewish neighbourhood. There will also be walking through the three Juderias (Jewish Quarter):Old Judiaria; New Juderia and Alfama Juderia. The afternoon we will visit the Jewish Sintra.
