Walking Tour Ria Formosa-Algarve
Walking tour in Faro
Guide in Portugal: Mouriscastours
Duration : 5 Hours
The Nature Reserve of Ria Formosa ("Handsome Estuary") is one of the ex-libris of the Algarve. Delimited by the peninsulas of Ancão and Manta Rota, it includes a vast area of more than 43 thousand acres. Forming a natural barrier between land and sea, it is formed by channels, islets and an enormous marsh.
Due to its geographical situation and rich ecosystem, the estuary is a unique habitat for many migrant birds, reptiles, amphibian and mammals. More than fifty different kinds of plants have been identified, and an equal number of animal species, some threatened by extinction. Thus, besides its undeniable natural beauty, the Ria Formosa is also an environmental treasure, preserving a unique flora and fauna.
