The old town of Al-Khor about 45 minutes drive north of Doha is literally the first port of call, with its picturesque fishing harbour. The town is home to a museum where you can see items from archaeological finds in Qatar and discover what they tell us about the lives of the people of the peninsula in centuries and even millennia past. After visiting the dhow harbour, the tour continues north towards the northernmost tip of Qatar. This is at Al-Ruwais, where some of the most beautiful beaches in the country are to be found.
A visit will be made to a Qatari family who will welcome you to their 'majlis', the traditional Arab room for relaxed conversation.
Lunch will be provided, along with tea served in typically Arab style.
The fort of Al-Rakayat, a piece of military architecture typical of the Gulf Region, will be visited. There are plenty of camels to be seen in this area.
The well-preserved fort of Al-Zubarah will also be seen, together with an important archaeological site nearby.
