Isla Negra is a very famous tourist destination in Chile. It is situated not far from Santiago, and it will take us no mote than an hour to reach this coastal area. Most people associate Isla Negra with Pablo Neruda, its most famous resident. This legendary Chilean poet lived at Casa de Isla Negra up till his death in 1973. Pablo Neruda spent all his life on the Isla Negra except for the time when he was in exhile and travelling. It is interesting to know that the Isle was baptized by teh poet himself.

The name of the Isle literally means "The Black Island".Currently the home of Pablo Neruda serves as a museum, which attracts thousands of tourists and fans of his remabcable poetry. It is worth noting that there is a special date on the island - july 12 - Neruda's birthday. There are always special celebrations on this date.

Lots of people come to the museum, read famous poems written by Pablo Neruda, listen to some music and have picnics on the beach. Most chilean private guides also recommend visiting the well-known beach resort called San Alfonso del Mar.
