When thinking of a shopping tour the first thing that probably comes to your head is, of course, a mall or a boutique street filled with designer clothes and accessories at rather low prices. However, this very tour is quite different from such expectations, since we are going for some shopping to the largest flea market in Europe and probably the world!

During the last decades of the XIX century it was a rather colorful marketplace set just outside the Porte de Clignancourt when leaving the Paris fortress of that time. The temporary market that carried all kinds of goods created a passageway from Paris to Saint-Ouen, which ultimately gave this unique place its name.

Since then, the market grew into a more permanent gathering as traders grouped together and set up a collection of most peculiar goods. The place started attracting more and more visitors, since it was the only place to offer some really strange and exquisite wares that were hard to find in typical shops and market. During the 20th century the amounts of both visitors and traders increased at a constant rate and very soon became quite fashionable to stroll through the lines during the weekend and hunt for relics that are nowhere to find except this place.
