The Kakheti region is believed to be the first place in the world to produce Wine. 

Alaverdi Monastery is the oldest cathedral in Georgia and it is under the protection of UNESCO. This was founded by the Assyrian monk Joseph Alaverdeli in the 4th century AD, bejng the period in which Georgia adopted Christianity as it's state religion. The monastery was subsequently destroyed and the structure present today is a reconstruction dating from 11th century. 

The Alaverdi Monastery has a height of over 55 meters and is the second tallest Cathedral after The Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tblisi.

The Kakheti region is also home to the famous  "Alaverdoba" celebration in which every october people from all parts of Georgia gather to celebrate wine production with festivities and food. 

The village I am from is called Matani and situated only 20 km from the Alaverdi Monastery, and so i am intimately familiar with the monastery and the region, its culture and history. 

Telavi is the Capital of the Kakheti Region. This scenic city is 300 years older than Tbilisi and has brilliant views on caucasus mountains. In the 17th century Telavi was the capital of the Kingdom of Kartl-Kakheti. King Erekle II had the residence of the castle situated there, which is now a very popular tourist destination. During the excursion through the castle-museum you will have an opportunity to see how the king lived, his chambers and daily life become apparent to visitors.  

The downtown arwa of the city has been largely renovated. It will be nice to walk through the city and to see how the people live.
