Delft is one of the hidden, quiet and beautiful pearls of Holland.

As I am an authority on the painter Johannes Vermeer, I would be happy to explain to you the role painters have played in this town of Delft throughout the ages. I will show you the home of masters and pupils on my well-procuced map with their exact locations. Because of my background in art history, I have become thoroughly familiar with Delft’s historical artists and patrons. I can take you to see the Delft museum of art, located in the Prinsenhof. It is a museum of fascinating collections of porcelain, paintings and design. For those with army interests, the grand old Armamentarium, which is the home of the Army and Weaponry Museum. Close to the vantage point of Vermeer's View of Delft.

We will stroll through many parts of the city of Delft. In the sixteenth century, Delft was heavily fortressed. It became the seat of the national government and as a city, it was very well fortified and quite imposing.

Delft is also known worldwide for its Delft ceramic pottery. The pottery looked like the original translucent porcelain imported from China. This industry developed widely since the Dutch East India Company became active and had one of its offices in Delft. A Delft Blue factory visit at the edge of the city will give you an opportunity to see the production process...  If you prefer, you can visit one of the many commercial Delft Blue stores at Market Square.

It will be my pleasure to accompany you by train to Delft and after that to nearby The Hague, if you are interested in combining a tour of Delft with one of art museums in The Hague. The key paintings of Vermeer are at the Mauritshuis. You will be amazed by the diversity of great architectural styles in this seat of government. I will tell you stories how life moved along in the sixteen hundreds. 

I am fluent in Dutch, German, English. The cost of the tour depends from where the tour starts and the number of hours and persons. Hotel pickup is included in the tour price. I am very flexible to accommodate your schedule and having been a school teacher, I am child-friendly.
