Robert Brike - Private Guide in Bastogne
Languages: Dutch, French, English, German
History has always been my passion. I have followed over the course of five years several training programs and today I am guiding at Bruges, Waterloo and the Villers Abbey.
First I have started a training program at Ceria (Anderlecht, near Brussels). The first year, we were with 65 students. At the end of the second and final year, only five students obtained their diploma and I had the chance to finish first. The reason why so many people quit, was simple; the teachers demanded a lot at their students. I had to work for school at least 15 hours a week, by following the traing programs and preparing guided tours. In the mean time, there was the usual full time job as tax inspector at the Belgian Ministry of Finance.
After Ceria, I studied one year the history of the Hageland, a small but beautiful region situated between Louvain and Liège. Afterwards, another year of study of the history of Dijleland, situated between Brussels and Leuven. Finally, I moved to Bruges, to study one year at the famous Spermalie tourism school and the following year I started doing visits in Bruges, in French, English, German and Dutch. Besides the school, I also studied specific training programs, given by the Abbaye of Villers and the Waterloo-1815-guides. After having succesfully completed these training programs I am a guide at the battlfefield of Waterloo and at the abbaye of Villers.
