Information about Kutna Hora
Located in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, Kutna Hora was settled in the 11th century by Cistercian monks and became famous for its now abandoned silver mines. The historical city has survived such vagaries as the Black Plague and the Thirty Years’ War with many of its prominent Gothic structures still intact.
This charming town is only about an hour away from Prague. Kutna Hora is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with one of its most notable landmarks being the incredible five-naved Church of St. Barbara. The Italian Court is another popular attraction, as are the Cathedral of Our Lady, the Gothic Stone Fountain and Kradek, the Little Castle.
Perhaps the most intriguing and somewhat macabre sight in this city is its Bone Church, the Sedlec Ossuary, where visitors are greeted with the sight of a chandelier made entirely of human bones.
