Information about Amman

Amman is the capital and most populated city in the Kingdom of Jordan. It serves as the administrative seat of the homonymous government and is ranked as a Beta city on the World City Index. Beta cities link moderate regions into the world economy through economics. Amman is located on a hill, in the middle of the desert and Jordan Valley.

The city has a temperate climate and the streets are lined with trees and uniform white houses as municipal law requires all buildings to have local stone on the facing. The townspeople are friendly, hospitable, well-educated and they take pride in their city. Amman is said to be one of the most westernized cities in the Arab World.

In the city center you will find a mix of old and new. Modern buildings, restaurants and boutiques standing next to old coffee shops and artisans workshops. Amman is a popular location for corporations to set up regional offices. The dining scene includes American restaurants like McDonalds and sit down restaurants like Applebee’s or T.G.I. Fridays.
