Information about Auckland
Located in the North Island of New Zealand is Auckland, the most populated area in the country. It also has the largest Polynesian population worldwide. Auckland ranked third on the 2014 Mercer Quality of Living Survey and is classified as a Beat World city. With its pristine rainforests, festivals, Hauraki Gulf wine regions, museums and volcanos, Auckland has a lot of offer.
The Auckland Volcanic Field is located here and there are fifty volcanic vents in the form of; lagoons, islands, depressions, cones and lakes. Although these are extinct, some have produced large lava flows. The largest volcano, Rangitoto Island, was formed within the past 1000 years and remains Auckland’s most iconic feature. The island is quiet and has no wildlife due to the acidic soil.
The Auckland Museum can show you how different cultures have made the city what it is today. Take a tour of a winery, sail the harbor, go bungee jumping, kayaking or check out the bars, galleries or restaurants. Visit Otara Market, the largest street market in New Zealand. This multicultural shopping experience will give you the opportunity to buy; quilts, t-shirts, fresh fruits, vegetables. And while you’re shopping you can enjoy some authentic food and music.
