UNESCO has declared Plitvice lakes national park with all rights as the World's natural inheritance in 1979, because of a specific geological and hydrogeological phenomenon of the karst . The series of 16 bigger and a few smaller lakes gradually lined up and separated by travertine barriers for which the period of the last ten thousand years was crucial are the basic phenomenon of the National Park.

The uniqueness and sensibility of the runing lakes deserve a full attention of every visitor of Croatia. Beauty of the area conquers by its natural diversity and harmony of shapes and colors in any of the seasons together with its rich flora and fauna.

Since the Park is settled in the central mountain region (90 Miles from Zagreb and 200 Miles from Split) and the public transportation is not very trustworthy, the best way for individual travelers to reach the most beautiful place in Croatia is from Zagreb by car with your local guide. :-)))
