Information about Berlin

Berlin is the largest city in Germany, with over 6 million inhabitants from more than 180 countries living spread throughout its metro area. After WWII the city was divided into the two capitals of a divided country, East Germany and West Germany, separated by the infamous Berlin Wall until reunification in 1989.

Surrounded by forests and numerous lakes, Berlin is a popular tourist destination for its natural beauty as well as for its cultural aspects, its diverse architecture, its many festivals and its thriving nightlife. During its warm summer months, visitors flock to Berlin from all over the world for its International Film Festival and its Carnival of Culture, and for the interesting outdoor marketplaces.

Most notable landmarks of Berlin are the Brandenburger Tor, the Reichstag (glass-domed government building), OlympiaStadion, the Jewish Memorial, Kaiser Wilhelm’s “Broken Tooth” church, the Pergamon Museum, and the 368-meter-tall Fernsehturm Television Tower with fantastic views from its observation deck.
