Kenya offers great value safaris and combines the best of African game viewing with affordable luxury lodges. Travel is by road and along the way you will have the opportunity to stop at small villages and markets. Heading north your first safari experience is at Samburu & Shaba Game Reserves. A rugged, semi-arid region that is home to unusual species such as Grevy zebra and reticulated giraffe, as well as oryx, gerenuk, somali ostrich and dik-dik. Elephant, lion, cheetah and leopard are also resident and are regularly seen on morning and evening game drives.
 Returning to the south, you have a night at The Ark, one of Kenya's famed tree hotels before continuing to Lake Nakuru - one of the Rift Valley soda lakes. The lake's wealth of algae attracts the huge quantity of flamingos that famously lines the shore. Other birds also flourish in the area, as do warthogs, baboons and other large mammals. Black and White rhinos have also been introduced.

Then you will enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Great Rift Valley. Further south you reach the rolling green plains of the Masai Mara. Considered to be the best of Kenya's wildlife areas, the Mara is the northern end of the Serengeti Ecosystem, and is the pathway of the yearly wildebeest migration that comes north from Tanzania around mid-July and then circles back around October. The fertile Mara plains sustain an enormous amount of game and are home to the Masai people.
The Masai are an indugenous African ethnic group of semi-nomadic people. Due to their distinctive customs, their dress and residence near the many game parks of East Africa, they are among the most well-known African ethnic groups internationally.
