Information about Nicosia

Nicosia is the largest city of the Republic Cyprus, and the only remaining divided capital in the world. (The northern section of the city is the disputed independent Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.) Nicosia has been the financial center of the island of Cypress since Roman and Byzantine times, and is presently ranked as one of the richest cities in the world.

The weather is mostly hot and dry, with relatively mild winters. There are many enjoyable activities in Nicosia, from explorations of Old Nicosia and its ancient architecture to the contemporary pleasures of this thriving modern city.

Segway tours are popular here, birdwatching is prevalent, and foodies will enjoy the cooking classes and tasting tours offered. In May many visitors flock to the International Bellepais Music Festival, and every March Nicosia hosts the Cyprus International Film Festival. Notable landmarks include the Ledra Street Border Crossing, St. John’s Cathedral and the Palace of the Archbishop.
