The Zaouia of Moulay Idriss was constructed in the 9th century to honor Moulay Idriss II, who established Fes as a center of learning and culture. The site has been expanded and renovated over the centuries, maintaining its status as a key religious site.
The complex showcases traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, with detailed mosaics, ornate plasterwork, and a green-tiled roof. The mausoleum itself is a serene space, adorned with calligraphy and geometric patterns.
Moulay Idriss II is believed to have brought Islam to Morocco and is considered a patron saint of Fes. Pilgrims visit the zaouia to seek blessings and pay respects.
The zaouia is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Entry is free, but donations are appreciated.
Early mornings or late afternoons are less crowded.
Modest clothing is recommended.
