Information about Bruges
Bruges is sometimes referred to as “The Venice of the North” for its many canals and bridges. It’s located in the Flemish Region of Belgium and is the capital city of the West Flanders province. The port of Bruges, Zeebrugge, is one of the most important and busiest ports on the North Sea.
Spring is always a popular time to visit Bruges, but the mild climate welcomes visitors anytime, and most attractions remain open throughout the year.
The historic old town center is a prominent UNESCO World Heritage Site with many notable medieval buildings still intact. The most famous landmark is the towering Belfry on the south side of the Markt where regular concerts are played on its 48 bells. Many music festivals are held here in Flanders’ largest city, and important sites include the Church of Our Lady, the Basilica of the Holy Blood, the Bonne-Chiere windmill and the Beguinage.
