Wine tasting tour in Santiago
Tour Price : $330-600 Duration : 7-8 hours Languages: English, Spanish
There are several things which are always associated with Chile. They are sunny beaches, summer vacation and above all remarkable Chilean wine. This private tour will be focused on visiting one of the family wineries. You should know that Chile has quite a long history of viticulture. It was early 16th century when the first Spanish conquistadors came to Chile and brought the so-called “Vitis Vinifera” vines. Only in the 19th century there were introduced several French varieties of wine. They were Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. During all these centuries the quality of the Chilean wine was growing and production methods were improving. That’s why nowadays Chilean wine is universally recognized and approved, while its taste, color and flavor are considered to be unique. No wonder the export of the wine is constantly growing.
You will have a unique opportunity to see the process of wine production from the inside. You will learn a lot of interesting things about vine harvesting, and wine production. If you are a wine connoisseur, this tour will be especially interesting for you. The most exciting part of the tour will be wine tasting. You will have an opportunity to taste different kinds of wine and decide which one you like most. Wine tasting is a significant part of the tour, and without that the tour would be incomplete.
We will also have a break in a lovely local restaurant, where you will be able to taste something of the Chilean specialties. Luckily all the wineries are situated not far from Santiago, so it won’t take us too long to get there. It is worth noting that we will visit several different valleys during our tour. Most of the private guides in Santiago recommend starting from the well-known valley called Casablanca. To tell the truth this valley has opened up a new page in the history of the Chilean viticulture. The first vines were planted in the Casablanca valley only in the end of the 20th century, and nobody expected them to flourish because of the cool coastal climate. However this climate made a positive impact on the grapes.
We will also visit some other valleys: Maipo Valley, Aconcagua, Rapel Valley, and Colchagua Valley. Chile private guides note that each of the valleys produces certain kind of wine. It is worth noting that the peak season of exploring the wineries is from November up till April.
