Montmartre in Depth: Art, History & Bohemian Life
Private tour in Paris
Tour Price : $200 Duration : 2 hours Languages: English, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian
Join me on an unforgettable journey through Montmartre — the legendary hilltop district that has inspired generations of artists, writers, and dreamers. Together we will trace how this once quiet village transformed into Paris’s vibrant hub of art, creativity, and bohemian life.
We begin at the charming Place des Abbesses, where I’ll share how Montmartre evolved from a rural community into the beating heart of Parisian nightlife and art. Just nearby stands the Église Saint-Jean de Montmartre, a striking Art Nouveau church whose innovative brick and metal design was truly ahead of its time.
A few steps away, we’ll stop at the romantic Wall of Love, a colorful mosaic where “I love you” is written in over 250 languages — a beautiful symbol of connection in the city of romance.
As we wander the cobbled streets, we’ll discover the legendary Bateau-Lavoir, once home to Picasso, Modigliani, and many other great artists who changed the course of modern art. Then we’ll visit the former house of the beloved singer Dalida, a cherished figure in French culture.
Our walk continues to the historic Moulin de la Galette, immortalized by Renoir’s joyful paintings, and to Théâtre Lepic — a historic venue that once echoed with cabaret songs and avant-garde performances. Don’t miss the whimsical Passe-Muraille sculpture of a man walking through a wall, inspired by a famous short story.
We’ll also see the statue of Saint Denis, Montmartre’s patron saint, who according to legend carried his head after martyrdom — a story both haunting and symbolic. Then we’ll stroll to Rue de l’Abreuvoir and La Maison Rose, one of the most photographed corners of Paris, where every angle feels like a painting.
Our next stop is Le Lapin Agile, the famous cabaret where Picasso, Utrillo, and their friends gathered for laughter, music, and creative exchange. Nearby, hidden among the streets, lies Clos Montmartre — the district’s historic vineyard, still producing Parisian wine today.
Finally, we’ll end our tour at the majestic Sacré-Cœur Basilica, where you can enjoy one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Paris.
This tour offers not just sights, but stories — a true immersion into the art, history, and spirit of Montmartre.
