The administrative center of the Kotor Municipality and a costal town in Montenegro is Kotor. Located in a secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor the small city rests in a submerged river canyon. With overhanging limestone cliffs and the gorgeous landscape, Kotor has become a popular tourist destination with many people arriving by cruise ship.
Kotor is full of medieval architecture and many monuments built between the 12th and 14th century. The city is a UNESCO, ‘World Natural and Historical Heritage Site.’ The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, a monument of Roman culture, is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. From the 12th century Church of Saint Ana to Napoleon’s Theatre from the 19th century, there is a wide range of historic treasures to explore in Kotor.
Regardless of the season, Kotor is a place to visit for its stunning beauty. The mountain slopes are covered with pine, oak, cypress and beech trees. Fruits such as pomegranate, figs, oranges, grapes and olives grow in numerous places. Palm trees, cactuses, mimosas and magnolias add to the charm of this breathtaking landscape.
