Prison Island — history, nature, and the sea.
Prison Island takes its name from its former use as a prison for slaves and later as a quarantine station for Zanzibar. Today, it offers a peaceful escape from the busy streets of Stone Town.

The island is located just off the coast of Old Stone Town and is home to the famous colony of Giant Aldabra Tortoises, some of which are over a hundred years old. These endangered tortoises were originally a gift from the government of Seychelles in the late 19th century.
