Don: Greetings, Private Guide in Vienna:
We are interested in an English-speaking guide for four people (we are all in our sixties, so extensive walking is discouraged) to visit museums and memorials of the music composers who worked and lived in Vienna in the 18th & 19th centuries. We plan to be there on June 20-21. We will be commuting from Sopron, Hungary each of the two days, so six hour excursions each day would be sufficient.
Three of our group of four are professional music educators. My wife is an elementary music teacher and the wife in the other couple and I are both university music professors. We are both retired now, but we were colleagues in the music department at the University of Central Arkansas.
Included in the attractions we would like to see are:
*Mozart Attractions: his house, St.Stephan's Cathedral, St. Marx's Semetary where Mozart was buried in a communal grave, and the Central Cemetary.
*Schubert attractions: the house, where he was born; church where he was baptised and sang, and the house, where he died.
*Beethoven attractions: Pasqualati house, where he spent 8 years off and on, the church where he lay in state, and the house where he wrote his " Heiligenstädter Testament,"
*Vienna Woods where we can see Baden where Beethoven lived (Beethoven House), Mozart composed the "Ave Verum" (church where performed for the first time) and Schubert and/or Strauss stayed in the summertime.
*Other Strauss and Haydn attractions in Vienna (excluding Eszterhaza)
We are also open to other musical or non-musical excursions that you feel would interest us.
Please address availability, fees, itinerary, and means of moving throughout the city. We are ready to make our decision, so please be expedient in responding.
Diane: I am just thinking of a couple of ideas. My 29year old daughter and myself are coming to Vienna for a week, December 2-9th. I was hoping to somehow get to show her the Alps. I am having a hard time finding a tour that would go for a day or two from Vienna to the Lakes/Mountain region...perhaps seeing Hallstadt etc...
Could you give me an idea of if it is possible to do that in a LONG DAY from Vienna and not 2 days and what it would COST through a contact like yourself?
I would like to inquire about a tour of Vienna, as well as some surrounding areas for my mother, who is traveling with me. She only speaks Spanish. I also would like to know if a day trip to other cities, including Budapest or Prague is possible.
We will be in Vienna through Friday. Unfortunately, we had travel difficulties, so we could not plan further in advence. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
