Belgium, and Wallonia in particular, is brimming with castles, less well known perhaps but equally as splendid as those in other European countries. Belgium boasts more castles per square mile than anywhere else in the world. Beautiful castles to experience, formal gardens in which to get lost, peaceful abbeys and historic breweries all await your visit. The step from Abbeys to Beer Breweries is not a big one in Belgium, as several of our Abbeys still have their own brewery. Belgium is well known for its many different excellent beers, actually over 600 different types. Most breweries brew more than one beer. However, fewer than 100 breweries are currently active in Belgium, compared to approximately 3, 000 at the beginning of the 20th century. The great monastic brewing tradition survives in six Trappist monasteries. Modern-day monks continue this tradition
