Day 1

Arrival in Baia Mare

Day 2

Departure from Baia Mare

First stop will be at Desesti, for visiting the wooden church built in XVIII century – UNESCO monument.

Next point of interest is Merry Cemetery from Sapanta.

Each cross is painted in a naive style and very colorfull. The deceased’s life or moment of death is painted in a scene toghether with an epitaph about him or her, a poetry written in the first person. Most of the time this text is ironic and describes the traits and habits that he/she had in his/her life, or about how he/she died.

Being in the area, we will not miss Sapanta – Peri Monastery – the highest wooden building from Europe (75 m high)

Lunch in Sighetu Marmatiei.

The visit at the Memorial Museum of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance (a former political prison which is now a museum) is a very important one for a better understanding of the communist era.

A short walk in the village of Breb

Day 3

Today will start with the visit of Budesti Josani wooden church (XVII century) – UNESCO monument

Next stop allows you to observe the traditional instalations powered by water (watermill, whirlpool, etc)

Next, a woodcarver workshop will be interesting to visit.

Barsana Monastery is the place where you can admire the wonderful traditional architecture on new buildings.

Poienile Izei wooden church (XVII century) is another UNESCO monument worth to visit

Lunch

Ieud wooden church (XVII century) – UNESCO monument

Visit Ples Museum in Ieud – peasent’s museum where you can experience the spinning and weaving techniques. This is a private museum founded by a local family who love theirs traditions.

Day 4

Steam train ride – Mocanita - Last of the Carpathian Forestry Railways.

The Mocanita is the only European railway that is still in use for timber production, a steam train since the beginning of 20th century. Now, some of this trains are also for tourists, letting them have an unique experince in the middle of nature, a very pleasant stroll during the course of the Vaser river , in the heart of the forest.

Back to Viseu around 15,30 .

The prices will be recalculated in case of a group between 2 and 6 people.
