
Volubilis was founded by the Carthaginians in the 3rd century BCE and later became a Roman city. It flourished as a center of olive oil production and trade. The city was abandoned in the 11th century after the seat of power shifted to Fes.
The site features impressive Roman ruins, including the Capitol, Basilica, and Triumphal Arch. The mosaics, depicting mythological scenes and daily life, are particularly well-preserved.
Volubilis is believed to have been the capital of the Kingdom of Mauretania, ruled by King Juba II and Queen Cleopatra Selene II.
The best time to visit is during spring or autumn when the weather is mild.
The entrance fee is approximately 70 Moroccan Dirhams.
The site has uneven terrain, so accessibility may be limited.
Pets are not allowed on the site.
