5 Favorite Set-Jetting Destinations - Part 2

For those who always wanted to follow in the footsteps of their most cherished characters, many of the most famous movies and filming locations even cater to the growing number of tourists who show up to relive the great film moments. Set-jetting has become a favorite pastime for many vacationers.

Part 1 gave you our initial five recommendations here at Private Guides. Here are a few more to help you decide where to set-jet on your next holiday escape:

Four Weddings and a Funeral, London, England

Enjoy a visit to London’s surrounding areas including Hampstead, Islington’s Highbury Terrace, where in the final moments of the movie Andie MacDowell’s character Carrie infamously states, “Is it still raining? I hadn’t noticed.” Or take a trip to Thurrock, Essex overlooking the River Thames where parts of the funeral were filmed. Be sure to bring a copy of W.H. Auden’s famous poem “Funeral Blues” to read for yourself.

Braveheart, Glen Nevis, Scotland

Take a trip to Scotland and the areas surrounding Glen Nevis. Popular film locations for the hit movie Braveheart have become some of the most sought-after set-jetting locations. Remember to hoist your sword high while there, screaming, “They can take our lives, but they will never take our freedom!”

Harry Potter, Hertfordshire, England

For film buffs of the magical world of Harry Potter, a multitude of locations were used. While the main Warner Bros Harry Potter studio is found in Hertfordshire and can be toured, the scene where a young Harry first encounters his powers was filmed at the London Zoo’s reptile house in Regent’s Park.  The house at #4 Privet Drive was actually filmed in Bracknell on Picket Close. An assortment of other film locations can also be found with your own guided tour.
