Petri Oleng. Helsinki Finland Temple

has probably the largest forests in EU compared to the total area of Finland and 180 000 lakes. Outside Helsinki there is a totally different Finland, almost as if there were 2 different countries. There you can drive a 100 kilometres without seeing a single town. That is where a ramshackle cottage by a lake and a properly stoked sauna is all that's required for happiness.

Helsinki is a contemporary European cultural city whose urban cosmopolitan lifestyle exists in perfect harmony with nature.

Helsinki is Finland's capital and the centre of its economic and financial activity. Also Helsinki can also be considered Finland's culture-capital. It is situated in the southern part of Finland on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Because Helsinki is located on the coast of the Baltic Sea and has many kilometers of coastline, most of its central districts are near the seaside. Helsinki is a very maritime city and is popularly called “the daughter of the Baltic”. The population of the city of Helsinki is about half a million people.

Helsinki retains a small-town feel: there are no high-rise buildings and the market square is still surrounded by 19th-century architecture. Its waterways and green parks, fresh sea winds with seagulls flying over the busy market square, and many open-air cafes make it a perfect summer destination. Helsinki is lively but not bustling.

While it embodies much of the Finnish spirit and its progressive hi-tech push, it is different from any other Finnish city, due in part to the fascinating combination of Swedish and Russian influences.
