Shore excursion / Day trip / Full Day to Meteora and the museum of royal tombs of Aigai-Vergina

In this amazing full day tour you will see the most beautiful sights and scenery. On our way I will give you a lot of information about history, mythology and culture.

First, we are going to visit Meteora and their majestic monasteries. Afterwards, we are going to see the breathtaking royal tombs of Aigai, which are located in Vergina, Veroia.

I can adjust the schedule, duration and activities to meet your needs. You are welcome to inform us on any special requests you have.

Itinerary

As time goes by, we arrive at the breathtaking Meteora, where we will visit lots of monasteries, built on top of 1000 foot rocks, such as the Holy Monastery of Varlaam, Rousanou and the Holy Trinity. Then we will take a break for a coffee at Kalabaka. We are going to stay there for 2 hours.

We, then, move to the ancient city of Vergina. Vergina is best known as the site of ancient Aigai, the first capital of Macedon. It was there when in 336 BC Philip II was assassinated in the theatre and Alexander the Great was proclaimed king. The ancient site was discovered in 1976 and excavated under the leadership of archaeologist Manolis Andronikos. The excavation unearthed the burial sites of many kings of Macedon, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great, which, unlike so many other tombs, had not been disturbed or looted. It is also the site of an extensive royal palace. The archaeological museum of Vergina was built to house all the artifacts found at the site.
