Exploring Almaty – the city of gardens

This tour offers an introduction to Almaty, with visits to its most beautiful monuments and places of interest. Almaty is developing according to the 2030 General Plan, created in 1998. The plan aims to provide ecologically safe, secure, and socially comfortable living conditions. Its main objective is to strengthen Almaty’s image as a “city-garden.”

One of the priorities of the plan is to continue both multi-storied and individual construction, reorganize industrial areas, improve the transport infrastructure, and expand the underground subway network.

Kök Töbe
A highlight of the tour is the famous Kök Töbe Hill. An aerial tramway connects downtown Almaty with this popular recreation area located just southeast of the city. On the top of Kök Töbe stands the Alma-Ata Television Tower. Visitors can also enjoy amusement-park style attractions, cozy restaurants, and panoramic views over the city.

Fountains of Almaty
Almaty is also known for its fountains. According to the Department of Natural Resources and Resource Use Management, as of 2007 the city had 125 fountains and fountain groups. Among the most famous is the “Oriental Calendar” Fountain, with 12 sculptural figures representing the animals of the Kazakh 12-year cycle.
